Muscatatuck Wildlife Society
The Muscatatuck Wildlife Society is a volunteer, non-profit 501(C)3 organization created in 1989 for the purpose of supporting programs and activities at the Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge. The MWS has approximately 200 members.
- Formed a Foundation that funded the Concervation Learning Center, which doubled the size of the Visitor Center.
- Created and manages the Nature Bookstore at the Visitor Center, which is staffed entirely by volunteers. Proceeds aid Refuge projects.
- Supports and facilitates the annual Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest.
- Maintains the historic Myers Cabin and Barn.
- Sponsors events and happenings such as Wings Over Muscatatuck, Take A Kid Fishing Day, Nature Time for Preschoolers, Bird Walks, Refuge Master Naturalist Program, Log Cabin Day and educational activities on and off the Refuge.
- Funds fishing piers, bird-viewing addition, observation deck, Refuge cemetery stone repair, copperbellied water snake research and a children's Nature Discovery Area.
- Supports Refuge Intern program.
